Live like a local
Discover Senegal at the table.
A first look at food, shared meals and choosing somewhere to eat.
Start with a dish and a conversation
Ceebu jën, a Senegalese culinary practice inscribed by UNESCO, connects rice and fish with skills and a shared occasion. Tasting can also be a chance to ask who cooks and how the meal is shared. Our suggestion: choose one dish to discover instead of a checklist, and let your host explain their version.
Choose a place for the occasion
A quick lunch, an oceanfront table and dinner together serve different needs. Consider the neighbourhood, return journey, current menu and total price before choosing. Le Lagon 1 has an official restaurant website; check current conditions directly. This documented lead is neither a restaurant rating nor a claim that our team visited.
Street food and shared meals
Observe preparation and choose somewhere whose conditions suit you. Ask about ingredients: a rough translation is not enough for an allergy. At a shared meal, follow your host’s guidance and ask before serving yourself. Our Wolof notes help start an exchange; for an important dietary restriction, use a clearly understood written explanation confirmed by the person preparing the food.
