Prepare your trip

Health and vaccinations before Senegal.

Separate entry conditions from health recommendations, then prepare the right checks.

Short answer

A vaccine required for entry differs from one recommended for protection. Requirements may depend on origin and transit. The consulted sources do not all describe the yellow fever rule in the same way: confirm it for your complete route. Discuss health recommendations with a professional; this page does not determine individual needs.

Required or recommended?

French advice states that, from 9 March 2026, certain vaccines are recommended for travellers arriving from countries without epidemic or endemic situations. Canada still lists yellow fever vaccination evidence as required for some origins or transits. We flag this difference instead of giving a universal verdict. Share your full itinerary, including connections, with a travel-health service and confirm the condition with the relevant authorities.

Prepare a consultation and everyday precautions

CDC recommends preparing travel health at least a month before departure and reviewing routine vaccinations. Its Senegal page covers malaria, vaccines and protection against bites. Have your itinerary reviewed rather than choosing medication yourself. For food and water, follow official advice: hand hygiene, safe water and properly cooked food. Adapt precautions with a professional who knows your circumstances.

Insurance and emergencies

Check insurance coverage for local care, planned activities, exclusions and potential evacuation. Keep the assistance number, policy reference and useful medical information offline. The FCDO lists 15 for an ambulance in Senegal. If language is a barrier, ask someone who can explain the situation clearly; a phrasebook cannot replace emergency communication.
